Leon Kleemann

I studied Biology (B. Sc.) in Bayreuth and moved to Tübingen for my master’s in Molecular Cell Biology and Immunology. For my master’s thesis project, I joined Elisa Izaurralde at the Max Planck Institute in Tübingen where I worked on the non-canonical translation initiation factor DAP5/eIF4G2. During this project, I discovered my fascination with RNA biochemistry and translation. For my Ph.D., I joined Sebastian Leidel in Bern to continue working on ribosome profiling and translation.
Here, I work on tRNA modifications in human cells to understand their role in translation dynamics and translation-associated diseases.
In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, swimming, beach volleyball, running, watching football, and discovering Switzerland with my friends.
